Can a locksmith program a Chrysler Pacifica or 300 key?
Yes. The Pacifica, the 300 and the Town & Country all use the Sentry Key immobilizer that runs across the Chrysler group, and a licensed locksmith programs a replacement at the vehicle by obtaining its PIN through proper channels once ownership is proven. The hardware differs by model. The 300 has had a proximity fob with push-button start since about 2011; the Town & Country used the fobik, the plastic remote that pushes into the dash, through its whole run; the Pacifica that replaced it in 2017 is proximity throughout, and its fob also drives the power sliding doors and liftgate. The Chrysler 200 sits between generations and platforms, so for a 200 we ask the year and confirm before dispatching. If you still have one working key, the new one is added in minutes; with none, the key is generated from the vehicle, which takes longer but is still done where it is parked.
Minivan fobs: sliding doors and the liftgate
A Town & Country or Pacifica fob does more than a car key: it opens the power sliding doors and the liftgate, and parents learn which button does which by feel. A replacement has to be the fob with the right button set for that van — a five-button fob and a seven-button fob are different parts, and a plain two-button remote will start the van and leave you walking round to open the doors by hand. Tell us how many buttons the old one had, or which doors are powered, and the replacement matches.
KeySense on the Pacifica
Pacificas carry KeySense: one of the van's keys can be set in the Uconnect screen as a restricted key that limits top speed, caps the radio volume and mutes it until seat belts are fastened — a key for a teenage driver. The restriction lives in the van and is attached to a particular key, not built into the fob. When we replace or add a Pacifica key, it is an ordinary key until you designate it in the settings, and if the key you lost was the KeySense one, the new key can take over that role from the screen once it is programmed.
Chrysler Key Questions
The sliding doors stopped answering the fob but the van still starts. Do I need a new key?
Probably not. If the van starts, the fob is being read by the immobilizer and the transponder side of it is fine. The door and liftgate buttons work over the remote radio side, which is a separate circuit with its own failure modes: a battery that is just strong enough to start the van at close range but too weak to reach the doors, a worn button contact, or a van in which the power doors have been switched off in the settings — there is an overhead switch for that, and children find it. Change the coin cell first and check the switch. If the buttons still do nothing, the fob's remote circuit has failed and that is a replacement fob programmed to the van, with the old one's immobilizer role simply carried over. A new fob can be matched to the door-button layout of the old one.
Can you replace a Chrysler 300 smart key if I have no key at all?
Yes. A 300 with every key lost is the longer version of the job but still done at the car: the fob is generated from the vehicle and taught to its Sentry Key module using the PIN tied to that car, which a licensed locksmith obtains through proper channels. Ownership is confirmed first — photo ID plus the registration, title or an insurance card — and those documents can be locked inside, because we check once the car is open. Give us the year when you call; the 300's fob changed with the push-button-start cars, and a few trims have their own part. A second fob made on the same visit is the sensible addition, since a car that has just lost its only key has shown you what that costs.
Is a Chrysler 200 key the same job as the 300?
Not always, which is why we ask the year first. The first 200 was a continuation of the Sebring and keys for it follow the ordinary Sentry Key routine. The second-generation 200, built from 2015 until the model ended, sat on a platform shared with Fiat and used a different arrangement, and some of those years are straightforward while others are not something we would promise on the phone. Tell us the year and whether it has a start button, and we confirm what is possible for that specific car before a technician is dispatched. If it turns out to be a case we cannot reliably key, you hear that on the call and are not charged for it. The 300, the Pacifica and the Town & Country are the ordinary job described above.
