What is different about a locksmith call in University City?

The calendar, mostly. This neighborhood empties and refills on the academic year, so the work arrives in waves: unit turnovers in August and May, and lockouts steadily in between. Two practical consequences. If you are a student, the ownership check is the part that trips people up — a lease in a parent's or roommate's name is workable when that person confirms by phone or the leasing office vouches for you, but we cannot open a door on the strength of someone standing at it. If you are a landlord, a turnover rekey retires every key the previous tenant had, including copies nobody logged, and doing a block of units in one visit costs far less than it sounds. Our hours are 9 AM to 7 PM, every day — call early rather than late.

Move-in and move-out weekends

August and May concentrate a season's work into a fortnight. Leases end, units turn over, and the same weekend fills with people carrying boxes and propping doors open. Two things follow. Landlords who schedule turnover rekeys in advance get them done properly rather than in a scramble. And students moving out should assume every key they ever copied is still out there — handing back the one on the ring does not retire the others, which is exactly why the incoming tenant deserves a rekey.

Rental turnover, done right

Every tenant change should mean a rekey — it's the only way the old keys die. We work with University City landlords and property managers on unit turnovers, keying to new tenants quickly and documenting authorization properly. For students locked out at midnight-adjacent hours: we run 9 AM to 7 PM, so call early rather than late.

Campus-area car trouble

Keys locked in a car at a commuter deck, a fob that died outside a lecture hall, a lost single key to an aging sedan — the calls this neighborhood generates most. We reach the campus perimeter quickly from the highway and make replacement keys on-site so the car never needs towing.

University City Locksmith Questions

I'm a student locked out and the lease isn't in my name. Can you still let me in?

Possibly, but someone with authority has to stand behind it, and that protects you as much as anyone else in the building. If the lease is in a parent's or a roommate's name, the simplest route is for that person to confirm by phone while the technician is there, or for the leasing office to check you against the resident list during their hours — most University City complexes will do that readily. Failing that, anything genuinely tying you to the unit helps: mail addressed to you there, a utility or internet account, a housing assignment letter, a banking app showing the address. What we cannot do is open a door because the person standing at it says it is theirs. If nothing checks out, the leasing office or campus housing is the right next call.

I manage rentals here and I'm turning units over between semesters. What do you need?

Authorization, access and a list. Authorization means we are working for the owner or the management company on record — a work order or written instruction is enough, and it is what keeps everyone clean if a former tenant later claims their key should still work. Access means either someone on site or an arrangement for entry, which matters when several units are done in one visit. The list is the useful part: unit numbers, how many exterior doors each has, whether the buildings run a master system that must keep working afterwards, and whether you want units keyed individually or grouped. Rekeying re-pins the cylinders already on the doors instead of replacing hardware, so a block of units costs far less than it sounds, and every previous tenant's key stops working the moment we finish.

I'm locked out near campus late at night. Are you open?

No. We run 9 AM to 7 PM, every day, and we do not take overnight calls — better to say so plainly than leave you waiting on someone who is not coming. For an apartment, your complex's after-hours or courtesy maintenance line is the right number; most University City buildings keep one precisely because this happens constantly, and a maintenance technician with a master key usually costs a resident nothing. If you are on campus and do not feel safe waiting anywhere, campus police are the call to make, not a locksmith. For a car, roadside assistance through your insurance or the manufacturer generally covers lockouts around the clock, and students are often already paying for it inside a policy without realizing. Reach us in the morning if a rekey or a replacement key is still needed.
